If hip pain is limiting your daily activities, the Revelation® Hip System may offer you relief and restore your mobility.
The Revelation Hip System features a revolutionary hip (femoral stem) implant born from a multidisciplinary approach. This implant is designed specifically for active patients like you who suffer from pain due to arthritis or joint damage. In most cases, it allows patients to bear full weight immediately after surgery and facilitates fast recovery as well as regeneration of the femur bone1.
In 1917 John Koch released his findings on hip biomechanics and provided a model which has since been used as the standard for femoral stem implants. This model is called the Static Model because it considers the hip to function like a static lever. While Koch’s model was an amazing breakthrough in biomedical technology, due to the research limitations of his day, he was unable to address some aspects of how the bone functioned and responded to external forces. Most notably, the original static model did not include forces applied by soft tissue.
In the 1980s, a team led by a Dr. Joseph Fetto worked with above and below knees amputees to investigate how the hip works in a dynamic living environment. The team’s findings led to new information on how the body weight exerts compressive forces on the femur as well as the tension created by surrounding muscles and ligaments. This team’s research resulted in the ilio-tibial band model, which serves as the basis for the Revelation Lateral Flare® Hip System offered today by Encore Medical.
