M.I.K.A.TM stands for Minimally Invasive Knee
Arthroplasty, which allows the surgeon to use
smaller, sleeker instruments to perform
minimally invasive knee surgery, while using the
same surgical technique as traditional knee
surgery.
The benefits to the patient are a smaller incision, less blood loss, less tissue/muscle dissection and quicker recovery.
The surgical procedure is conducted under general anesthesia and generally takes about 1 to 1½ hours to complete.
Your surgeon will prescribe your rehabilitation protocol. Patients typically work with a physical therapist to resume daily activities, strengthen muscles and improve their range of motion.
Generally, most patients are able to return to activities within a few months.
M.I.K.A. allows the surgeon to perform the minimally invasive knee procedure using the same surgical technique that he/she uses for traditional knee replacement. M.I.K.A. provides smaller, sleeker instruments which conform to smaller skin incisions.
